How do you balance work and home life?
i find this question funny, personally. i work from home!
when finding a new job, i concentrated on the ability to work remotely. i was a professional at self-efficacy, and some days i would finish my to-do list by 11 am.
occasionally, at my previous job, i found myself sitting at a desk, wasting the day doing technically tedious, time-consuming processes. no one would speak to me for hours, and if they did it would be through email or microsoft teams. i could do everything i was doing in the comfort of my own home, but i was isolated in the attic of the facility, which was converted into my office because of the lack of space. instead of being surrounded by my family while i worked, i had little mouse visitors steal my food and leave droppings on my keyboard. it’s no better when i’m home because my boyfriend does the same thing, but at least i would be home!
i job hunted for seven months before i secured a remote position. it has been seven months at my new job, and i love the flexibility it provides. i can be awake by at 8:59 am, turn on my computer, and then answer emails by 9:01 am from bed. when i log off at 5 pm, i go straight to making dinner and relaxing for the night. there is no rushing out of a building to beat the evening traffic. it’s awesome and genuinely a life hack.
granted, i had to sacrifice some aspects in the job search to prioritize working from home. i am not super passionate about the work being done, and my role changes every six months since i am a government contractor. however, i have so much free time to do what i am actually passionate about, which is why i finally can get back into writing after six years of creating absolutely nothing but emails for people who i think contribute to the literacy crisis in america.
oh, and i get to listen to video game music all day while i work. right now i have animal crossing jazz playing in the background.
I’ve been looking for remote work for months. Good for you for finding something!
thank you Lindsay!
